MSEF Freeride Program
The MSEF Freeride skiing program is designed to focus on the training and development of athletes aged 13 to 19 seeking to compete in big mountain freeride skiing. Prospective participants are expected to be able to ski EVERYTHING at Snowbowl safely and confidently. The intention of the program is to offer quality training for athletes to become life-long skiers, community role models, supplemented by competitive opportunities. Trainings will focus on alpine skiing drills and techniques, off-piste skiing, air awareness, and backcountry skiing/avalanche safety.
Athletes should expect to set seasonal goals based on the IFSA (International Freeskiers & Snowboarders Association) competition judging criteria of proper technique, control, line choice, fluidity, and style. All freeride athletes are required to be equipped with a helmet; avalanche beacon, probe, shovel and backpack are highly recommended.
Freeride athletes are expected to compete in at least two competitions throughout the season. All IFSA sanctioned competitions require an IFSA membership; information for membership can be found here. See the list of competition dates and locations here.
Note: Program fees do not cover IFSA membership, competition fees, lift tickets, lodging, and transportation costs related to competitions. The number of athletes traveling for competitions may determine the availability of weekend trainings, if a majority of athletes are traveling for a competitiontrainings may NOT be offered unless another affiliated MSEF Freeride coach is available.
