The MSEF Freeride program is designed for all-mountain skiers, ages 13 to 19, seeking to improve skiing fundamentals through all-mountain skiing, alpine racing techniques, gate training, and sanctioned freeride competitions. Prospective participants are expected to be able to ski EVERYTHING at Snowbowl safely, competently, and must have prior approval from the Head Coach in order to participate in the program.
Freeride athletes are required to participate in at least one Freeride comp, and are highly recommended to compete in at least two throughout the season. Competitions listed below.
Freeride athletes can expect to develop fundamental race and freeski techniques through all-mountain skiing, off-piste training, drills, jump training, backcountry skiing, and avalanche awareness/safety. The program emphasizes skiing to competitive freeride criteria, including proper technique, line choice, control, fluidity, and style. All Freeride athletes are required to be equipped with a helmet; avalanche beacon, probe, shovel, and backpack are highly recommended.
